For incoming freshmen with out-of-state residency status
The following scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen with out-of-state residency status. In most instances, no additional applications are required.
- Arthur C. and Lois D. Kittleson Endowed Scholarship
- Awarded to a student who is majoring in a pre-medicine or education major; preference is given to students based on academic achievement, financial need; out-of-state residency status, and previous military or public service (peace corps) experience.
- Legacy Scholarship
- Awarded to students with out-of-state residency who have a high school GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or above and ACT composite of 21 or above or SAT combined score (critical reading and math) of 1000 or above, who are the dependent of an MSU alum; $1,000 annually; renewable for four years.
- Presidential Study Abroad Scholarship
- Awarded to students with out-of-state residency who have a high school GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or above and ACT composite of 21 or above or SAT combined score (critical reading and math) of 1000 or above, for use with an MSU-sponsored Study Abroad program; $3,000-$5,000, depending upon the length of the program.
- University Scholars Award

Presented to academically talented out-of-state students who are not eligible for the Honors College at the following levels:
- $6,000 awarded annually over eight undergraduate semesters to Academic Scholars Program invitees with a high school GPA of 3.8 or above and ACT composite score of 28 or above or SAT combined score (critical reading and math) of 1240 or above.
- $4,000 awarded annually over eight undergraduate semesters to students with a high school GPA of 3.5 or above and ACT composite score of 24 or above or SAT combined score (critical reading and math) of 1100 or above.
- $2,000 awarded annually over eight undergraduate semesters to students with a high school GPA of 3.3 or above and ACT composite score of 24 or above or SAT combined score (critical reading and math) of 1100 or above.

The following scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen with out-of-state residency status from a specified city, county, or state. The amount
awarded to each student varies each year. In most instances, no additional
applications are required.
- Arizona
- Robert and Catherine Workman Endowed Scholarship awarded an Amphitheater Public School District (Tucson) graduate or resident of Pima County or greater Tucson.
- California
- Greater Los Angeles Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship awarded to a limited number of residents of greater Los Angeles.
- Bill Roberts Sesquicentennial Scholarship Fund awarded to a limited number of residents of Orange County.
- Florida
- MSU Alumni Club of South Florida Endowed Scholarship awarded to a graduate of a south Florida high school.
- MSU Alumni Club of the Space Coast of Florida Endowed Scholarship awarded to a resident of Brevard or Indian River counties.
- MSU Alumni Club of Tampa Bay Area Endowed Scholarship award to a resident of the greater Tampa Bay.
- Georgia
- Greater Atlanta Alumni Club Endowed Scholarship awarded to a resident of greater Atlanta.
- Illinois
- Wilford D. and Verna B. Gratrick Endowed Scholarship awarded to an Illinois high school graduate.
- MSU Alumni Club of Metropolitan Chicago Endowed Scholarship awarded to a graduate of a metropolitan Chicago high school.
- Illinois or Indiana
- Leslie B. Rout Jr. Scholarship awarded to a resident of Illinois or Indiana.
- Maryland
- Harold M. Gurian Scholarship awarded to a resident of Maryland.
- New Mexico
- J. Croft Edwards Expendable Scholarship awarded to a resident of New Mexico.
- New York
- Greater New York Alumni Club Endowed Scholarship awarded to two residents of greater New York.
- Ohio
- Central Ohio MSU Alumni Association Scholarship awarded to a resident of Franklin, Delaware, Union, Madison, Licking, Pickaway, or Fairfield counties.
- Harold L. Gariety Scholarship awarded to a Russia, Ohio high school graduate majoring in agriculture, business, or engineering.
- MSU Alumni Club of Dayton Scholarship Endowment Fund awarded a limited number of residents of greater Dayton area or the state of Ohio.
- Northeast Ohio Michigan State University Alumni Club Endowed Scholarship awarded to a limited number of northeast Ohio high school graduates.
- Pennsylvania
- Jack and Anne Hornbeck Scholarship awarded to a Pittsburgh area high school graduate.
- Tennessee
- MSU Alumni Club of Nashville Expendable Scholarship in Memory of Ken Teran awarded to a student who is a resident of middle Tennessee with preference given to those with financial need or who were employed and/or involved in community activities.
- Texas
- MSU Alumni Club of Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Area Endowed Scholarship a high school graduate from the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area.
- MSU Alumni Club of Houston, Texas Expendable Scholarship awarded to a resident of the greater Houston area.
- Washington
- Seattle MSU Alumni Club Endowed Scholarship awarded to a graduate of a high school in the state of Washington.
- Washington, D.C. (metropolitan area)
- Betty Mitchell Colden Memorial Scholarship awarded to two residents of metropolitan Washington, D.C.
- MSU Alumni Club of Metro Washington, D.C., Expendable Scholarship Fund awarded to a resident of metropolitan Washington, D.C.
- Washington, D.C., Chapter MSU Black Alumni Scholarship awarded to a resident of metropolitan Washington, D.C.
- Wisconsin
- Michigan State University Alumni Club of Wisconsin Scholarship awarded to a resident of Wisconsin.
- Wyoming
- STARR Charitable Foundation Scholarship awarded to a limited number of residents of Wyoming. Find more information.

- Awarded to a limited number of international students displaying academic achievement.
- Global Spartan Scholarship
- Awarded to a limited number of international students displaying academic
achievement.
- Legacy Scholarship
- Awarded to academically talented students with non-Michigan
residency status who are the dependents of MSU alumni.
- Phi Theta Kappa Trustee Scholarship
- Awarded to a limited number of international students transferring from two-year institutions possessing a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and a minimum of 42 credits who are also members of Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application
- Patricia A. Szymczyk Butler Expendable Scholarship Fund
- Awarded to an international student who is a graduate of a high school in Poland.
