Timeline for Admission

High School Students

Michigan State University uses rolling admission; however, the number of qualified applicants has exceeded available space in recent years. For maximum scholarship consideration, seniors should apply by November 1. (Students applying after November 1 may qualify for scholarships if funds are still available.) Decisions are typically made eight to 12 weeks after all application materials are received.

Transfer Students

Michigan State University uses rolling admission; however, the number of qualified applicants has exceeded available space in recent years. Transfer students are encouraged to apply at least six months prior to their desired semester of enrollment. Decisions are typically made eight to 12 weeks after all application materials are received.

International Undergraduate Students

Michigan State University uses rolling admission; however, the number of qualified applicants has exceeded available space in recent years. International students are encouraged to apply one year prior to their desired semester of enrollment. Decisions are typically made eight to 12 weeks after all application materials are received.

More Important Dates and Deadlines

November 1
Scholarship awarding begins November 1. All admitted students are automatically reviewed. Students applying after November 1 should not be discouraged since they may qualify for scholarships if funds are still available.
November 1
Freshman applicants to the College of Human Medicine's MD Medical Scholars Program must submit an application for admission by November 1.
November 1
Freshman applicants to the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Medical Scholars Program must submit an application for admission by November 1.
After January 1
Admitted freshmen interested in receiving financial aid should submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1 of their senior year of high school.
Four weeks after admission/May 1 for fall students
All admitted students should submit their Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED) within four weeks of receiving their admitted student packet. Freshman students starting fall semester must submit their AED no later than the May 1 deadline or their offer of admission may be canceled. After submitting your AED, you may register for housing and select a date for your required Academic Orientation Program (AOP), which fills on a first-come, first-served basis.
